Cebu: Queen City of the South

Every year, a lot of tourists pay their visit to Cebu City, Philippines located at the Visayas region of the country. Known as The Queen City of the South, this city has a lot to offer not only with the known places and foods but also the hidden parts and the adventures that lie with it. With a land area of 315 square kilometers or 122 square miles, you can surely find a place to fall in love with all of its beauty.

  1. Magellan’s Cross – the most known tourist spot, this historic cross is a commemoration of the event during which Ferdinand Magellan has planted the wooden cross to the soil of Cebu as a mark that Catholicism has been accepted by the locals. Nowadays, it is said that the original cross is still encased with the cross that is currently visible in the city.
  2. Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño – one of the oldest churches in the Philippines, it is also one of the most visited places in the city due to the old Sto. Niño relic that can be found inside it. People and devotees come to Him to pray, give thanks and wish.
  3. Fort Santiago, Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House, Casa Gorordo Museum & Heritage of Cebu Monument – if you want a taste of the city’s history, then these places is fit for your travel. You can learn a lot by going to these places. Another good thing about these places is that they are near to each other so you can just take a walk and enjoy the sun.
  4. TOPS – best time to go here is at night. But if you also want to see the whole of Cebu City during the day, then go ahead and plan your trip on this overlooking site during daytime. Located in Barangay Malubog, Busay, Cebu and is a 30 to 40-minute drive from the heart of the city, staying on this spot will make your trip worthwhile.

  6. Crown Regency Hotel – if you don’t want to spend so much time on travelling to experience an overlooking, then this place is for you. Also for those looking for an extra adventure, this hotel has some of the most extreme activities that involve a lot of height. Standing at over 130 meters off the ground, you can take a walk, ride their Edge Coaster, go bunjee jumping or ziplining. Designed with these amusements, tourists are making sure they experience any or all of it to say that they have conquered Cebu City. Indeed, this place isn’t for the faint-hearted.
  7. Matias, AA’s BBQ, Larsian – if you’re a foodie and wants to try the best delicacies of Cebu, then you might want to try these places. AA’s BBQ has a lot of branches scattered over the city so it won’t be hard to find. Larsian and Matias are already well-known so you won’t be finding some difficulty as well. All of these places offer fresh, grilled seafoods. Matias and Larsian are serving the puso, or rice which is wrapped in weaved bamboo leaves. No matter which place you pick, you will surely be happy to try these out since the food are all affordable and most of all, very delicious.
  8. Bantayan Island – 5 to 6 hours away from the Cebu City is an island which is most sought by the tourists for its beauty. The fine, white sand and the clear, blue waters – tourists are willing to spend those extra hours of travel just to reach this place. A paradise-like, this place is perfect for those who want to relax and spend their time away from the busy sounds of the city.
