It was on March 7, 1989 in Subic Bay Zambales, when Gerald Randolph Opsima Anderson Jr, was born. Briefly, Gerald’s father is an American instructor in the US Navy. He travels back and forth from Zambales to the US; while his mother is a businesswoman from General Santos City. When he was just 3 years old, they migrated to San Antonio Texas and then they went to Missouri when he was just 6 years old.

After a few years, he went back to the Philippines. As they say, the rest is history. The lure of show business came unexpectedly to Gerald Anderson as his discovery is not the usual conventions in doing such things. It was Joross Gamboa, a fellow actor  who discovered him when Gamboa performed in Gerald’s hometown. Upon seeing him, Joross introduced Gerald to his manager, Jhun Reyes who in turned brought him to ABS-CBN to audition for the first season of Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition. After 42 days together with other housemates, he was named as Teen Third Big Placer in the said reality and talent search show.

Anderson’s first love, was basketball. According to him, he said he would have been a basketball player, if he did not enter show business. Charitable as he is and his love for basketball combined, he organized a charity basketball game event for the cause of children with special needs. The said noble mission of his was inspired by the hit TV series, Budoy wherein he played the lead role. His performance in that primetime series won him several prestigious accolades. Among these were as follows: The Anak TV Award Makabata Star, 2013 Golden Screen Awards Best Actor and the Gawad Tanglaw Best Performance by an Actor. Apart from these, he was also cited as Northwest Samar State University’s Students Choice Awards as a Best Actor in that phenomenal primetime TV series. He also won the KBP Golden Dove Awards Best Actor, 2014 Gawad Tanglaw Best Performance by an Actor, in a single performance.

Aside from the other previously mentioned awards under his belt, he also won the PMPC Star Awards for TV as Best New Male TV Personality and the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation Box Office Awards. Gifted with a flair for acting coupled with good looks, he was tapped to star in the drama series The Two of Us in 2009 which won him the Best Drama Actor Award at the NSUU TV Awards. In those years, Kim Chui and Gerald Anderson were also named The Most Popular Love Team for three consecutive years at the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation Box Office Awards.

After his unexpected victory as the third big placer in PBB: Teen Edition, he did appear  in several ABS-CBN shows together with his on/off screen leading lady, Kim Chui. They did Love Spell and Aalog-Alog and the movie, First Day High. In the fascinating movie world, Sana Maulit Muli was assigned to these new and fresh talents after the unprecedented success of the series. After which, they did a movie entitled, I’ve Fallen For You under Star Cinema.

The following year proved to be a good one for this young man as he again starred with Kim Chui in the film What Now? and was part of the cast in ABS-CBN’s primetime drama, If We Are To Be Apart. He also appeared in Your Song Presents: Island with his Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited former housemates. It was in October 2011 when the popular love team did Till My Heartaches End and that movie also presumably ended their secret romantic involvement with each other.

Did you know that animals have a soft spot in Gerald’s compassionate heart? This was very evident when he actively joined PETA in its campaign in 2013 to free Mali from Manila Zoo and have her transferred to Boon Lott’s Elephant Sanctuary. Mali, by the way is the only captive elephant in the Philippines where she has lived for three long decades in solitaire.

At present, Gerald Anderson is in the cast of the adaptation of Mars Ravelo’s Dyesebel pairing him with Anne Curtis.
