Summer is now here. We can already feel it with the scorching heat we experience every time we go out our very own home. And what best way to beat this heat other than water? Water has a lot of benefits and is a sure necessity to each and every one. We can go a week without eating anything but we can never last more than three days without water. That’s how important water is.

Nowadays we have a lot of energy drinks and juices available at every store but none of this would compare to the quench that water is giving us. I know water is just plain tasting as compared to these energy drinks but what if I tell you that you can also make your own flavored water – improving the taste and giving you a lot of health benefits at the same time? And I’m not talking about putting powdered juice on your mineral or tap water and then putting in some ice. What I’m saying here is what is now known as infused water. All over the world, this alternative has been known for its benefits and the easiness on how this can be prepared.

Infused water is just basically thinly sliced fruits, vegetables or herbs added onto a pitcher or a jug of water and chilled in a refrigerator. You could be surprised on how many combinations of fruits, vegetables and herbs could be made in infused water and the different benefits it gives. For starters, we already know what fruits and vegetables would give us. We already learned it at school, in our mothers and almost everywhere. Fruits and vegetables are a great source of vitamins and nutrients that we need in our daily life. The water, on the other hand, helps us keep hydrated. Dehydration can lead to other illnesses like extreme headache, joint pains, muscle spasms, digestive disorders, renal dysfunction and many others. By infusing water with different kinds of fruits and vegetables, it will be easier for us to achieve the recommended daily amount of water intake with a bonus of additional vitamins and nutrients from the fruits and most of all, less costly than those found in the supermarket which even have preservatives and artificial sweeteners. With infused water, our immune system can be stronger, appetite control can improve, our blood sugar and blood pressure can be regulated and it can even help us get fit.

Now that the benefits of the infused water and how easy it can be prepared is now established, the different recipes and the different benefits it entails depending on what fruit you choose can be selected on a wide range of variety. The most well-known combination of infused water is the lemon water. As the name suggests, it is just lemon added on the water. Lemons help in cleaning the liver and cutting down weight. Other than that, it can also provide beauty benefits such as healthy skin texture.

Another known recipe is the cucumber infused water. This also helps in weight management as well as digestive problems. As for the herbs, mint and rosemary are the most used. A lot of people loved adding mint since it gives the water a more refreshing feel and it also helps keep their breath stay fresh. Rosemary on the other hand is believed to release antioxidants and is also believed to help improve memory.

Just because lemon, cucumber, mint and rosemary are the most known ingredients for the infused water, does not mean that you could not give your own shot in making your own recipe. Go out and experiment. After all, there are a whole lot of other fruits and vegetables at the supermarket. Just look for the one that suits your taste.
