US President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama kicked off the White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday.

Easter Egg Roll is always one of the Obama’s favorite events. It started dates back to 1878 under President Rutherford B. Hayes. The theme of this year’s event: “#GimmeFive”, part of Mrs. Obama’s healthy-eating-and-exercise initiative for young people. In her remarks from the White House balcony, Mrs. Obama urged participants to find five new ways to lead a healthier lifestyle, calling it “a great way to get everybody moving”.

The president later started an egg race and read to a group of children from his favorite kids’ book, “Where The Wild Things Are”. Obama also shot baskets and stroked some tennis shots with some of the young people in attendance.

At one point, the president appeared to decline a request for a picture, saying that if he did a selfie for one person, he would have to do everybody.

Children and adults played sports, listened to music, experimented at cooking stations and learned new exercises. Celebrities at the White House ranged from actress Connie Britton to members of the Washington Wizards to talk show hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan, who broadcast their programs from the South Lawn.

This year’s Easter Egg Roll at the White House also celebrated the fifth anniversary of first lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move”! Campaign.
