The Philippine Senate has implemented the lawful suspension of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile. This sanction of his, was in connection with the plunder and graft cases of the ex-senate president for several years. Based on the documented records of Sandiganbayan, its Third Division has found out that Senator Enrile had allegedly amassed over a total of Php 172.8 million.

These huge sum of money came from Janet Napoles’ fake NGO’S. In this respect, incumbent Senate President Franklin Drilon has said that the Senate has started to implement the three- month suspension after the motion for reconsideration of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile was denied by Sandigan. Accordingly, Senate President Franklin Drilon has authoritatively stated the following:

Today I will implement the order of the Sandiganbayan on the suspension of Senator Enrile. I have no recourse, but to implement this, as we received the order of the Sandiganbayan denying the motion for reconsideration of Senator Enrile.

Further, the Senate President added.

The suspension will be effective today, and the suspension will be automatically lifted after 90 days. This is the order of the Sandiganbayan and we have no recourse but to implement it, consistent with the decision of the Supreme Court in the case involving a member of the legislature.

For the sake of information, every suspended senator for a period of 90 days is lawfully incapacitated to file Senate bills and will not receive any salary. On the other hand, his or her staff will be continuously paid as mandated by law. The staff of a particular senator are not his or her personal employees. Similarly, an elected senator will only receive his compensation once the temporary suspension has been finally lifted.
