Former Cheetah Girls singer Adrienne Bailon performed an emotional “I Could Fall In Love” on Tuesday to honor the 20th Death Anniversary of Selena. The 31-year-old co-host of The Real talk show sang the ballad before an audience that included Selena’s sister Suzanne Quintanilla, and said,

Twenty years ago, we lost the woman I consider my idol. She single-handedly put Tejano music on the mainstream map and she’s the reason I am who I am today“. She also noted that is has been six years since her last public performance. “My first songs were Selena. Thank you for giving me the honor“, she added.

Adrienne Bailon I Could Fall In Love Performance to honor Selena’s 20th death anniversary.

On March 31, 1995, Selena was shot in the back by her fan club president Yolanda Saldivar after being lured to a Days Inn motel in the singer’s hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. Saldivar, now 54, was found guilty of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison in 1995 with eligibility for parole on March 30, 2025.

Selena, the so-called Queen Of Tejano music was aged 23 when she was killed and was on the verge of crossover success with her first English-language album “Dreaming Of You”.

Meanwhile, her sister Suzette played drums in the family band “Selena y Los Dinos” and addressed the singer’s fans on The Real.

“Thank you so much for continuing her legacy, thinking about her and jamming to her still”.Suzette said.

She also invited Selena’s fans to the upcoming Fiesta de la Flor two-day celebration of the singer’s life and legacy that will be held on April 17 and 18 in Corpus Christi.

Selena’s father Abraham Quintanilla, who started the family band, spoke to Para Todos magazine that honored Selena two decades after her death by placing her on the cover of the April issue.

“We were proud of the achievements of Selena and the group. Winning a Grammy and four albums on Billboard Magazine top 200 simultaneously, and also many other awards for Female Vocalist and Female Entertainer of the Year”, Abraham told the magazine.

Selena inspired major music stars such as Beyonce, Demi Lovato and 22-year-old Texas native Selena Gomez, who was named after the Tejano star, and Jennifer Lopez in her first leading role portrayed the singer in the 1997 biopic Selena.
