What would be your reaction if an actor the likes of Tom Hanks suddenly invaded your private and intimate moment?
Over the past weekend, newlyweds Elisabeth and Ryan were taking pictures of their wedding in Central Park when Hanks, who appeared to be jogging, took notice and decided to join the sweethearts that made their celebration extra sweet.
Hank’s latest cameo was captured by New York City based wedding photographer Meg Miller, who said that instead of passing by like an ordinary citizen, the Saving Private Ryan actor inched closer to the couple, took off his hat and introduced himself.
“Hi, I’m Tom Hanks,” recalled Miller.
But just when they though that the experience was mere exchange of pleasantries, Hanks took over and joined Elisabeth and Ryan in a series of photos. He even did a selfie and posted it on his Twitter account and wrote, “Elizabeth and Ryan! Congrats and blessings! Hanx.”
To cap his rather good timing, Hanks bade goodbye by kissing the bride’s hand and gave his good wishes to the groom with a firm handshake, just like a true gentleman.
Miller on the other hand, was humbled by Hank’s actions.
“It was a good New York minute,” she added before posting the images on her Instagram page.
The once in a lifetime experience was also published on Reddit after Miller’s friend posted it on the site.
Another source pointed that his wasn’t the first time Hanks “crashed” a special event: while shooting one of his unforgettable movie, Forrest Gump, in Beaufort, South Carolina, Hanks also took a photo with Mary Dunning Chapman who was at the time preparing to tie the knot with her husband.
While other Hollywood A-listers would rather be private or even go the other direction, Hank’s motives were pure yet impromptu. It wasn’t like he’s making his presence felt, but he did so with selfless grace and a bit of standup.
As one of the most respected names in the movie industry, Hanks is no stranger to instant decisions, and this occasion is no exception, except that there are no cameras, no spotlights, not scripts to memories. The couple – even Hanks himself – was in the right place and in the right time. Call it fate, an accidental crossing of the paths or a spur of the moment, but Hanks was there, the couple was there, in one of New York City’s iconic places.
Known for his Oscar-winning roles, the 60-year old Hanks is married to actress, singer and producer Rita Wilson. His movies include Big, Philadelphia, Apollo 13, You’ve Got Mail, The Green Mile and The Da Vinci Code, among others. He has a total of 17 awards under his belt, including back-to-back Best Actor awards for Philadelphia (1993) and Forrest Gump (1994)
