The roller coaster-like Philippine presidential elections is just a few years away, but it looks like VP Binay is in a hot seat these days with respect to the kickbacks that he allegedly received when he was still the incumbent mayor of Makati City. This was the undaunted allegation of his former ally and vice-mayor Ernesto Mercado. Based on his testimony, he said that the ex-mayor of Makati City was able to receive this supposed commission from the overpriced building project which amounted to 1.314-billion. This has something to do with the sophisticated construction of the Makati City Hall Building 2 parking space.

VP Binay vehemently the allegation of his former vice-mayor in Makati City.

Mercado testified before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee. Along this juncture, the courageous local official was asked by Senator Koko Pimentel if he had any personal knowledge about the matter to strongly sustain his allegations against VP Binay. In reply to this very blunt question of Senator Pimentel, Mercado said.

You know, us politicians know the answer to that question. If the vice mayor benefited, then perhaps the mayor benefited even more here. It’s impossible that my mayor did not gain from it. It’s the usual practice.

In all honesty, Ernesto Mercado said that he indeed earned from the proceeds of this particular overpriced project. Specifically, these were for phases 1 and 2 of the said skyrocketing structure in Makati City. Shockingly, he further revealed.

You know I’m not a liar. I admit I benefited from the phase 1 and phase 2 of the project.

After all these intriguing disclosures against VP Binay, Mercado said it was really heartbreaking on his to spill the beans against Vice-President Jejomar Binay because they were the best of friends for a very long time. However, Mercado said that he bravely did so in the name of national interest.
